The faithfulness to the continuity of a tradition that keeps on to be handed down is an important value for our family. Our first vineyards, indeed, date back to the middle of last century, when we grew mainly Nebbiolo grapes on our small plots of land, producing wine to be sold to Roero local market, an area that was at that time still very far from the great oenological growth it had in the last years, and not only that.

During the Thirties our firm had the first big turn: Cesare Porello starts changing the family properties in a small but serious firm, increasing, next to the production of wine, the peaches production too, and Canale was a renown place for that.

During a not simple historical period, very good solid basis were created with tenacity and hope in the future, on which they would have invested, aiming at a higher and higher quality product. In the second postwar period the inheritance was left to his sons Riccardo and Ettore who, during the years of the country economic booming and industrialization – when people arriving from the hills moved to the big towns –, decide to invest exactly in their vineyards, increasing the land planted with vines and concentrating the vineyards in those lands that were historically suitable for that, even though once they were considered more difficult and less paying to be cultivated.

The company, that is run now by the third generation, is managed by Marco, Riccardo’s son, who started dealing with his family’s vineyards since 1994, after having taken his degree in oenology at the Oenological School of Alba (Cuneo) and having carried out some important experiences in France, Bordeaux area and in Tuscany, exactly in Chianti area.

The still family-run firm philosophy is based on some principles. Important investments are dedicated to the work in the vineyards, which means about 2,000 hours worked per year per person in a vineyard, because grapes quality is a fundamental requisite to obtain quality wines. The wine-making grapes are not taken from third parties but they all come from the family vineyards, carefully followed and grown during the whole production cycle. Finally, the attention to the product high quality is not concentrated on a limited number of bottles, but it is extended to the entire production area, in order to ensure a high and continuous qualitative standard.
